Future Virginia health care will have McDonnell’s brand

While the effects of “Obamacare” will soon be changing the health insurance industry, Gov. Robert F. McDonnell is fighting to put his own brand on Virginia health care that could become “McDonnellcare.”
 
The issue of health care has the governor juggling his fight against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the federal mandates that will be implemented in the coming months and years, and his agenda to put a personal stamp on the Commonwealth’s health care system.

Virginia governor remains confident in ABC privatization

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell yesterday said he remains confident that privatizing state liquor stores will generate hundreds of millions of dollars for transportation projects.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be $300 or $500 million or $800 million,” he said. “But the point is I think government’s core function is not selling alcohol. I think there’s a number of things that can be privatized in state government that the private sector can do better, and if I can create a one-time windfall for transportation maintenance to be able to do something about that and get the government out of that business.” Read the full story

Hundreds of Virginia boards need weeding out, McDonnell says

This month, Gov. Bob McDonnell appointed or reappointed 113 Virginians to groups like the Milk Commission and the Board of Towing and Recovery Operators after many of the appointments expired on June 30.
