Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell yesterday said he remains confident that privatizing state liquor stores will generate hundreds of millions of dollars for transportation projects.
“I don’t know if it’s going to be $300 or $500 million or $800 million,” he said. “But the point is I think government’s core function is not selling alcohol. I think there’s a number of things that can be privatized in state government that the private sector can do better, and if I can create a one-time windfall for transportation maintenance to be able to do something about that and get the government out of that business.” Read the full story
